How To Get More Done In Your Business By Working less

Do you feel like you're always working, but not getting enough done?

If so, you're not alone.

Productivity is a challenge for many small businesses and entrepreneurs and running your own business has become synonymous with woking all the time, which - contrary to popular belief - is actually what's killing your productivity.

More rarely = better.

It's important to try to find a way to relax and rejuvenate, so that you can come back to your business with fresh eyes and new ideas.

Believe it or not, rest is a powerful productivity tool!

In this blog post, I'll be sharing five tips for getting more done by actually working less.

1. Prioritize your tasks

The key here is to focus on what matters most in your business - without going overboard trying to do it all.

  • Do a quick review of all of your daily tasks. Which tasks are directly related to generating income? Focus on these and delegate, automate or eliminate the rest.
  • Stick to your strengths, Which tasks are you good at? Prioritizing these tasks will help you get more done in less time.
  • Remember that some tasks are simply not urgent and can wait until tomorrow.

2. Delegate when possible

Trying to do everything yourself will only lead to burnout.

If you haven't started building your team yet, outsourcing tasks to a VA for a few hours a week can be a game-changer. Having someone respond to emails, write blog posts and post on social media can give you back some much-needed white space in your calendar.

3. Schedule results, not tasks

Instead of giving yourself an hour to "work on" a podcast episode, give yourself an hour to complete it. Parkinson's Law states that "work expands to fill the time available for its completion."

This is especially true when it comes to dreaded tasks. By scheduling a specific result for your task, in a specific time frame, you're less likely to get overwhelmed and procrastinate and more likely to finish it in far less time than leaving your task without a deadline.

4. Take breaks often

It's important to take breaks often so that you can refresh your mind and come back to your tasks with new energy. Take a short walk, a quick nap or close your eyes and focus on your breath for a few minutes. It doesn't take long to give yourself a reset.

5. Simplify your life wherever you can

The less you have to think about, the better.

Can you automate your finances? Hire a personal assistant or a professional house cleaner? Sign up for a meal delivery service?

If you can simplify your life by getting rid of some unnecessary tasks and obligations, do it!

The less you have to think about every day, the more time and energy you'll have for important tasks that will help grow your business AND you'll have more time to enjoy your life!

Productivity is not about working all the time and doing more, but rather doing what matters most and getting it done in less time.

And most importantly, remember to relax and enjoy your new found free time! You deserve it. 🙂
