I have been a certified Life Coach for over 5 years and even though coaching has been around since the 80's, I still meet people who have never heard of coaching let alone experienced how powerful it can be.
WHAT IS A LIFE COACH?
After doing a quick Google search on "what is a life coach" I found an article in O Magazine that describes a coach like this: an action-oriented mentor who can help you reach your goals.
Honestly, this definition falls waaaaaaay short. Yes, a coach can help inspire you to take action but there's so much more to it than that.
Let's start with what it's not. Coaching is not therapy.
LIFE COACHING VS THERAPY
With therapy, the focus is on the past. The point is to heal past wounds.
Therapy is usually diagnostic based, focusing on diagnosing a non-functioning problem that needs to be solved or focusing on the past and how it’s affecting the present. The goal of Therapy is to take you from dysfunctional to functional.
Instead of focusing on your past, Life coaching is future focused. Life coaching, brings you from functional to exceptional.
You don’t talk much about your childhood at all in life coaching. It may come up from time to time because our beliefs about ourselves and how the world works begin to be formed when we are little. We take these beliefs with us into adulthood without even realizing it.
Most of coaching, however, is focused on what you want your life to look like and helping you get out of your own way so you can achieve all of it. And more.
DIFFERENT STYLES OF COACHING
Life Coaching is an unregulated industry so there are as many different styles of coaching as there are coaches.
For example, some coaches encourage accountability and will tell you exactly what you should do. They are action oriented and focus mostly on what you need to do to achieve results.
Alternatively, there are coaches who help you see how you’re creating the current results in your life and how you can change those results all by yourself. No outside accountability necessary. This is the style of coaching I practice. I teach you how to coach yourself so you can not only reach your current goals, but can continue to grow and achieve anything you want for the rest of your life.
WHY YOU NEED A LIFE COACH
If you fee like you’ve checked all the boxes but find yourself thinking you should be happier than you are, then you need a life coach. If you have big goals and aspirations but lack the confidence it takes to go after them, then you need a life coach. If you want better relationships, more money, more fun and less stress, then you need a life coach.
It's probably becoming pretty clear that I think everyone needs a life coach!

WHAT’S A COACHING SESSION LIKE?
Each life coach will run their session differently but here's what you can expect when we work together.
I meet with my clients a few times a month via video call.
The first session is complementary. We take this time to make sure we are a great fit and to see which coaching option is the best fit for the client's needs.
After the initial consultation if we decide to move forward with the coaching relationship, either a 3 or 6 month commitment is made, depending on the program offerings at that time.
